Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute, should not break the Kingdom - Nayiri

Nalerigu (N/R), March 6, GNA - The Nayiri, Naa Abdulai Mahami Sheriga
the Paramount Chief of the Mamprugu Traditional Area has observed that
the Dagbon Chieftaincy disputes has the potential of breaking the
kingdom into two if care was not taking to amicably resolve it.
He said if this happened it would weaken the kingdom and create
more problems for the people."I am always having sleepless nights over
the Dagbon crisis and I want to appeal to the two royal gates, the
Andanis and Abudus to soften their positions on the matter for the
unity of the kingdom", he said.
The Nayiri made the observation when the Interior Minister, Mr.
Kan Dapaah paid a courtesy call on him at Nalerigu on Sunday.
The Interior Minister was on a four-day working tour of the
region to pay courtesy calls on chiefs and visit security
organisations to interact with them to know of the security challenges
facing them with the view to helping to address them.
The Nayiri said: " If two people are fighting they both always
think that they are right. All that I am asking from Dagombas is
patience", adding: "The dog can catch the mouse but the mouse fears
the cat more than the dog."
He said the problem of the Dagbon crisis was like sending a
blind man to the river to wash his clothes. He would continue to ask
the sighted person to find out whether his clothes were clean.Mr.
Dapaah said the greatest challenge to security and peace was the
Dagbon chieftaincy dispute and appealed to all stakeholders in the
dispute to find a lasting solution to it.
He announced that the government has established Regional Peace
Committees to help get into the remote causes of disputes in the
country for amicable settlement to enhance development.
The Interior Minister paid similar courtesy calls on the
Yagbon-Wura, Bawa Doshie, Paramount Chief of the Gonjaland and the
Gulkpegu-Gbamlana, (regent) Alhaji Abdulai Ziblim in Tamale.The
Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris accompanied Mr.
Dapaah on his tour.
