Bolgatanga Polytechnic management holds capacity building workshop

Bolgatanga, March 14, GNA - Dr George K T Oduro, Coordinator in charge of the Netherlands Government Project for the southern sector, on Wednesday stressed the need for more female representation in polytechnic leadership in the country.
He said male principals headed all the 10 polytechnics in the country, with no single female head.He made the appeal during a three-day capacity building workshop organised for the management and heads of the department of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic.
Dr Oduro said most of the departments of the country's polytechnics were also being headed by males and noted that such imbalances did not provide good role models for female students in the polytechnics.
The workshop themed: "Improving Polytechnic Education Through Effective Middle Level Management" and sponsored by the Dutch government, aimed at offering heads of departments in the country's polytechnics the opportunity to reflect on their leadership and management roles in the context of change implementation.
In a speech read for him, the Principal of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic Professor Paul B Tanzubil commended the organisers and the sponsors of the workshop and said it would help equip and strengthen the capacity of management and departmental heads for effective delivery of quality services. He appealed for regular organisation of such workshops since there was the need for management and departmental heads to constantly update their knowledge. The participants were taken through topics such as Baseline Exercise, Project Context and Change Agendas, Content of Track One and Module One, Change Management Concept and Applications, Duties and Responsibilities of Heads of Departments and Deans.
They were also taken through Modern Management and Educational Leadership, Empowerment and Accountability, Polytechnic Management and Role of Head of Department, Gender Issues of Education and Training, Customer Orientation and Customer Needs.
