Four persons including a police officer perish in road accident

Obuasi, March 14, GNA -Four persons including a policeman lost their lives in a fatal motor accident when a petrol tanker and two mini buses collided on the Obuasi-Kumasi road.   
     Mr Emmanuel Kusi, the driver's mate of the petrol tanker and two unidentified women died on the spot, while Chief Inspector Maxwell Mensah, in charge of Akrokerri Police Station lost his life while being conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
    Sixteen other passengers who received various degrees of injuries had been admitted at the AngloGold Ashanti and Obuasi Government hospitals.
     A Police source said an 11 year-old girl, Mary Owusu, was rushed to KATH in a critical condition.
    The source said the driver of a 207 Benz bus with registration number AS 1739 V was overtaking the tanker with registration AS 6955 X, when he spotted an on-coming bus with registration number GR 9551 T.
    Sensing danger he negotiated a curve to avoid a headlong collision with the tanker.
The source said in the process the tanker driver hit the Benz bus and crushed into the other bus that had packed along the road.
    The Tanker, loaded with diesel was heading to Kumasi from Takoradi whilst the 207 that did the overtaking was going to Akrokerri from Obuasi when the accident occurred.
