Chiefs, religious groups urged to spearhead fight against HIV/AIDS

Ejisu-Ashanti, March 14, GNA - Traditional rulers, religious groups and opinion leaders have been urged to spearhead Government policies and programmes against the spread of HIV/AIDS, especially among the youth in the country.
     Venerable John Kingsley Mensah, Archdeacon of Kumawu Archdeaconry of the Anglican Church, who made the appeal, asked traditional rulers to find a solution to the increase in the use of cursing in the society.
     Venerable Mensah was preaching at a thanksgiving mass organized by the Archdeaconry Women's Fellowship at Ejisu-Ashanti in the Ejisu-Juaben District.
     He noted that the HIV/AIDS and cursing were menace that had negative impact on the development of the youth in the country.
     "Most of the youth are perishing through HIV/AIDS and curses. It is time chiefs, churches, assembly members and opinion leaders initiate measures to nip these menace in the bud," Venerable Mensah added.
     Venerable Mensah asked Christians especially the women to be role models for the youth at home to refrain from such social vices like stealing, drug addiction and drunkenness.
     He appealed to women to be supportive to bring up disciplined youth.
     Mrs Gladys Sekyi, Kumasi Diocesan Chaplain of the Women's Fellowship, cautioned Christian women against any attitude of undermining activities of priests who were ordained men of God.
