Tamale, March 19, GNA - Mr. Francis Adjei, Director of the Northern Easter School, has called for effective participation and support for the school to enhance economic and social development of the North.
He said effective participation; adequate media coverage and sponsorship were problems confronting the Northern Easter School and stressed the importance of the school in nation building.
Mr. Adjei made the call in Tamale at a press briefing on this year's Northern Easter School to throw more light on the activities and the essence of the school.
The Institute of Adult Education (IAE) is sponsoring the Easter School, which is geared towards bringing scholars and the academia together to focus on the development of the North.
This year's school, which is also aimed at creating an enabling environment for participants to freely express their views on how to develop the North, is on the theme: "Northern Ghana after Independence: Achievements, Challenges and the Future".
Topics lined for discussion include, Education in Northern Ghana: 50 years after independence; sustaining the cultural values of Northern Ghana; agriculture in Northern Ghana, the way forward and the state of the national economy: Focus on Northern Ghana.
Mr. Adjei appealed to the media in the Northern Region to get involved in all the programmes and contribute meaningfully to the discussions to motivate participants to have effective deliberations.
He said due to inadequate media coverage of the school, attendance had been decreasing year after year adding: "It needs the contribution of the media and the support of other stakeholders to ensure its success".
He appealed to the private sector and benevolent organisations to help with sponsorship to enable the school to achieve the desired results.
