Pan Africanists urge unity for economic liberation

Accra, March 14, GNA - A Pan-African group, the Pan-Afrikan United Front (PAUF), on Wednesday called on Africans all over the world to unite and organize for the economic liberation of Africa. They should also reject aid with strings, Granfadaa Ayito-Meka, Spokesperson for the group, said at a press conference in Accra.
"We need to fight for a common economic policy to promote and consolidate our political unity, while embracing authentic African culture and identity," he said.
Quoting the popular declaration of Ghana's first leader, Dr Kwame Nkrumah at independence that; "The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa," Grandfadaa Ayito-Meka said Africans should wage relentless struggle for the ultimate defeat of neo-colonialism as the foremost enemy of African people worldwide. He said Africa was capable of handling its own affairs if given the chance and criticised the US for truncating Ghana's first post-independence government through the 1966 CIA-inspired coup.
"Every facet of our lives is affected by the ravages of neo-colonialism," he said.Ms Affiong Affiong, a member of the group, who spoke on the need for the African to regain self-confidence, dignity and respect, reiterated the need for Africans to unite and fight for economic independence. She urged the youth to be strong in the fight for economic independence. Ms Affiong noted that Africa had a great history to be proud of saying, "That is my inspiration."
