Tamale, March 14, GNA - About 200 athletes and a number of officials drawn from the ten regions of the country have registered to take part in this year's National Cross Country competition to be held in Tamale on Saturday, March 17.
Seven institutions made up of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Prisons Service, the Police, CEPS, Immigration Service, the Ghana Armed Forces and GUSA would also participate in the event, which kick starts at the new Tamale Jubilee Park to vie for honours.
Mr. Gabriel Messodey, Northern Regional Sports Development Officer who disclosed this in an interview with the GNA Sports in Tamale on Wednesday said everything has been put in place to ensure a successful competition.
He said the competition was under the joint patronage of Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister with Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sport Council expected to officially open the 2007 athletic season.
Mr Messodey said the competition which would also attract both men and women would be run over a distance of about 12 kilometers for men and eight kilometers for the women.
The Office of the Regional Sports Council have confirmed to the GNA Sports that all was set for the event and appealed to the residents of the Metropolis to lend their maximum support to ensure a successful hosting of the event in the Region and to back the Northern Regional team to win the competition.
