Ankaase SDA JSS re-opens after mob attack on teachers

Mamponteng (Ash), March 6, GNA - The Ankaase Seventh-Day Adventist
(SDA) Junior Secondary School, which was temporarily closed down about
two weeks ago by the Kwabre District Education Directorate, has been
re-opened.
Rev Samuel Affainie Amankwaa, the District Director of
Education, said the re-opening of the school was in response to an
appeal and pledge by the Ankaase traditional rulers, religious leaders
and other meaningful residents to ensure the safety and security of
teachers in the area.
It was also to enable the final-year JSS pupils to prepare
adequately towards the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
in April.
Rev Amankwaa said the directorate would convene a roundtable
conference with all stakeholders in the education sector in the area
to find lasting solution to the persistent attack, assault and hostile
attitude of some residents towards teachers in the community.
On February 22 the school library was broken into and
investigations identified some final year students as the culprits.
Later, some residents became offended and attacked the teachers.
This compelled the education directorate to temporarily close
down the school to protect the safety and security of the teachers.
