Accra, March 4, GNA - Ghana Life Insurance Company Limited (GLIC) on
Friday presented a cheque for 100 million cedis to the Ghana@50
Secretariat.Alhaji Ben Ahmed, Chairman and Principal Counsellor of the
Company, said they felt privileged to make a token contribution to the
Secretariat for the 50th anniversary celebration.
Barclays Bank Ghana Limited also presented a cheque for three
billion cedis with Mr Clifton J. Best, Chief Operating Officer of the
Bank, saying the money was meant for a number of Ghana@50 activities,
with 200 million cedis being earmarked for the Secretariat directly.
The activities are Golden Homecoming Summit (250 million cedis),
Ghana Investment Forum (1.12 billion cedis), enhancement of primary
level education (610 million cedis) and ICT education in secondary
schools (820 million cedis).
Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, Chief Executive of Ghana@50, said none
of the projects listed were initiatives of the Secretariat.
He said such acts by corporate organizations created the
erroneous impression about how much money the Secretariat actually
received.
"We will not allow any company to use the secretariat to promote
themselves at the expense of the integrity of the secretariat."It is
important for the right picture to be painted in the press so that
nobody will come after us to account for three billion cedis when in
fact we received only 200 million cedis from Barclays," he said.
