Juaso (Ash), Feb 2, GNA – Solomon Amankwaa, 38-year-old mason, was last Tuesday remanded in prison custody by the Juaso circuit court for neglecting his parental duties to his two children.Amankwaa, who was granted bail in his first court appearance to enable him settle the issue before the adjourned date, failed to do so. The court remanded him.He pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on February 7.
Police Detective Sergeant Richard Adu Ofori of the Konongo police, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon, that in November 2005, the Amankwaa's wife visited her sick father at Bomfa in the Asante-Akim North district and returned a month later only to find another woman in her matrimonial home. The prosecutor said the woman's disapproval of the situation resulted her being forced out of her matrimonial home, so she returned to Bomfa with her two children.
According to the prosecutor, Amankwaa has never honoured his duties as a father to the children despite efforts by the Domestic
Violence Victims Unit to resolve the issue.
