Ghanaians urged to recognise their heroes

Kumasi, Feb.16, GNA– Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to give praise and due recognition to past heroes, especially in the year of the Country's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
 He said it was through the patriotism and hard work of these heroes that the country was able to attain independence from colonial rule.
 Mr Assibey Antwi was addressing about 4000 pupils from the Kumasi Metropolis, who were on Thursday at the Asem School Park to witness the hoisting of the Ghana flag.
 Speaking under the theme "Ghana @50, Rally around the Flag", the Deputy Regional Minister, urged the school children to emulate the dedication and hard work of Mrs Theodora Okoh, the designer of the national flag, who had in mind the country's rich natural resources as well as the sacrifices of the forefathers.
 Mr Antwi said the composition of the National Anthem and the Pledge, by other patriotic citizens were also acts worthy of emulation since they reminded Ghanaians of the ideals and spirit of nationalism.
     He said the hoisting of the flag was also significant since it reminded Ghanaians on the need to protect their minerals and environment.Present at the ceremony were heads of basic and second cycle schools, teachers and other government officials in the Kumasi Metropolis.
