Police arrests man for attempting to shoot detective

Sunyani Feb. 16 GNA- The Police have arrested Kofi Alhaji, a 25-year-old unemployed man, who attempted to shoot a police detective who went to effect his arrest at Chiraa, near Sunyani.
   Chief Inspector Christian Yohonu, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that one Kwasi Boateng reported to the police at Chiraa that his missing mobile phone had been found with Alhaji and had refused to hand over the gadget.
   He said the police invited the suspect to the police station for an amicable settlement of the case but he refused to turn up.
   Chief Insp. Yohovu said Detective Lance Corporal Joseph Zakaria Adams was asked to go and arrest Alhaji.Chief Insp. Yohovu said on seeing the policeman, the suspect removed a pistol from his pocket and attempted to shoot the detective, but he kicked the weapon from the suspect's hand and a struggle ensued.

The suspect made another attempt to stab the detective with a jack knife but he was overpowered and sent to the police station.Chief Insp. Yohonu said the suspect would soon be arraigned at court after investigations.
