Kumasi Local Council of churches launches jubilee activities

Kumasi, Feb. 16, GNA - The Kumasi Local Council of Christian Churches has launched a weeklong programme of activities to mark the golden jubilee celebration of the nation in Kumasi.
The celebration, which is under the theme "Christian perspective of Ghana @ 50", will begin on February 24 and end on March 4th.
Among the activities are prayer sessions by all Christians, clean-up exercises throughout the Kumasi metropolis, public lectures, symposium, float in Kumasi and non-denomination joint church service at the Asem school park to climax the activities on March 4th.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Thursday to launch the programme Reverend Douglas O. Frimpong, chairman of the planning committee, said in-spite of the numerous challenges facing the country, God had shown a lot of favour to Ghanaians, which called for the celebration of the jubilee year.

He mentioned the cancellation of substantial portion of the nation's debts by creditor nations, the Millennium Challenge Account, Black Stars sterling performances in recent times, increase in the country's international reserve, Ghana's decision to wean itself from the IMF, the election of Ghana as the chairman of the African Union among others as some of the favours God had shown the country.
Rev. Frimpong said the weeklong activities are to create awareness among Christians and the general public to actively participate in the golden jubilee celebrations.
