Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, on
Tuesday called on Ghanaians to respect the freedom and rights of
others and show the way to love and unity for one another as a people
of one nation.
He said: "Let these jubilee celebrations and Easter activities
enable us to know absolute liberation in Christ, reconciliation, debt
forgiveness, peace, unity, national stability and development."
Rt. Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso made the call when he delivered a
special Jubilee Easter message to the Presbyterian Church and the
nation as a whole."Easter celebrations should give us a cause to
reflect over the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and of our
predecessors as a nation and those who fought to free us from bondage
of slavery and colonization."
He called on politicians to bridge the political divide and come
together for the good and development of the nation especially as this
year was also a jubilee year for the country.
"We as Christians should demonstrate patriotism and lay down our
lives for the benefit of others and for the sake of Christ Jesus our
lord."
He said Christianity must be seen as a beacon of hope for the
hopeless, a source of inspiration for the oppressed and that which
unites the worst of enemies.Rt. Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso cautioned that
freedom was not obtained on a silver platter but an expensive thing
and reminded Christians that it cost the life of Christ and that of
our founding fathers to liberate us.
"Let us not forget that freedom goes with responsibility. I pray
that this year's celebrations and Easter will affect our nation and
make the proclamation of freedom and justice a reality in our land."He
urged Christians to let the death and resurrection of Christ be
meaningful to them and for the nation and called on them to pray for
God to intervene in the affairs of the nation particularly the current
energy crisis that the country was experiencing.
Rt. Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso said: "It is my fervent wish that
selfishness, ethnocentrism, lack of commitment to national course,
corruption of the heart and other negative tendencies which are
tearing us apart as a people will give way to positive attitudes such
as selfless devotion to duty, honesty, hard work, fellow-feeling and a
mindset for progress and prosperity."
He said if Ghanaians got commitment to such virtues then by the
next 50 years Ghana would attain absolute freedom in Christ and
greater socio-economic, political and religious heights and serve as a
beacon of light for Africa and the world.
