Old students urged to develop their alma mater

Offinso (Ash), Jan 28, GNA- Nana Opoku Asiedu, Principal of the Offinso Teacher Training College in the Ashanti Region has said that the best gratitude that old students could render to their alma mater was to actively participate in the institution's programmes and activities.

He regretted that some past students were usually apathetic towards the development of their schools and called on them to change.
Nana Asiedu, who is also the Kokotehene in Offinso, was interacting with newsmen at Offinso on Friday on the impending 50th anniversary celebration of the College scheduled for February 2, this year. Activities planned for the anniversary includes clean-up exercises, games and sports, exhibition, debate, lectures as well as a speech and prize-giving day and fund raising harvest to support the infrastructure development of the school.Nana Asiedu said the College, established by the Methodist Church Ghana, had trained many eminent intellectuals, businessmen and academic personalities who occupied high positions in and outside the country.
He, however, expressed concern about the increasing deteriorating of the College's limited infrastructure, which he said, was undermining effective professional training of the students.

Notwithstanding these challenges, he said the College's management had provided priority basic facilities that had tremendously improved the moral, academic and professional training of the students.Nana Asiedu commended the efforts of some past students, Offinso citizens, the district assembly, the traditional council and other organisations for the provision of some vital teaching and learning materials in the College. The Principal appealed to the government, NGOs, foreign embassies and other philanthropic organisations to donate generously during the College's fund-raising harvest to help improve the limited facilities at the College.
